The Agojie, also known as the Dahomey Amazons, were an elite all-female military unit in the Kingdom of Dahomey, located in modern-day Benin. Renowned for their bravery and combat prowess, they served as key defence only military of the kingdom from the 17th to 19th centuries.
The story of Dahomey’s expansionist policies, which involved territorial conquests, conflicts with neighboring states, and participation in the transatlantic slave trade, recognizing that all people that existed in the Benin Kingdom equally fought for the expansion.
